President Donald Trump has made it clear that he wants Jerome Powell removed from his position as Federal Reserve Chair. Trump has criticized Powell’s policies, particularly his approach to interest rates and inflation, arguing that they have hurt economic growth and the stock market.

Trump believes that a new Fed Chair aligned with his economic vision—favoring lower interest rates and looser monetary policy—would better support the economy and markets, especially with the 2026 elections approaching.

While Powell’s term officially ends in May 2026 and he cannot be removed without cause, Trump is pushing for a replacement who can steer the Federal Reserve in a direction more consistent with his priorities.
